Shane Nicholson – Thursday August 3rd at The Spotted Mallard, Brunswick.
In his island villa, amongst the palm trees and coconut bras Mrs. Jones leaves lying around, Kokomo has a special trophy shelf. Look closely and you will see his first demo tape, awaiting its inclusion on a movie length episode of MTV’s Behind The Music. Then there’s the faded music press clippings of Kokomo’s Tuesday night show at the Continental Club from his glory days. Look even closer and you will see an empty space, reserved for the day Kokomo brings home an ARIA award. Or a Country Album of the Year Award. Hell, Kokomo would even settle for a Grammy.
Shane Nicholson has quite a few of these awards and his new album Love and Blood is going to drop soon. And if you’re wondering if anyone is ever cool enough to say ‘drop’ when referring to a release date, the answer is a firm hard fuck no.
Shane Nicholson – Friday August 4th at The Caravan Club, Oakleigh
Please re-read above. Remember the image of coconut bras? Hubba hubba. OK, carry on.
Grinspoon – Friday August 4 at Pier Live, Frankston
Speaking of Kokomo’s glory days, there was a time Kokomo would admit he liked Grinspoon. Dead Cat Three Times? Genius. He would probably justify all this now by saying that in those days bucket bongs were the cornerstone of any truly healthy breakfast. Back then Kokomo wasn’t the inner city hipster snob he is now and wouldn’t think twice about venturing out to places like Frankston. Not to score heroin or wait in line at the Centrelink for free money but to see a rock show. Grinspoon is doing an anniversary tour for their first album. Go along, bring a knife, and if you need some chemical assistance for the show go visit Jakxsen on Young Street, his shit is the bomb! BYO Narcan.
